SUPPORTING CATEGORY REQUIREMENTS
To pursue a credential using the postprimary pathway, in most cases you’ll need to earn certification and registration through ARRT in the appropriate corresponding supporting discipline. In some cases, however, you can earn your supporting category credential through another organization. See below for details.
RADIOGRAPHY
If you earn a credential in Radiography, you’ll meet the supporting category prerequisite for the following disciplines:
- Mammography
- Computed Tomography
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Bone Densitometry
- Cardiac Interventional Radiography
- Vascular Interventional Radiography
- Vascular Sonography
- Breast Sonography (requires credentials in Radiography and Mammography)
- Radiologist Assistant
NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGY
If you earn a credential in Nuclear Medicine Technology—through ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)—you’ll have met the supporting category prerequisite for the following disciplines:
- Computed Tomography
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Bone Densitometry
- Vascular Sonography
RADIATION THERAPY
If you earn a credential in Radiation Therapy, you’ll meet the supporting category prerequisite for the following disciplines:
- Computed Tomography
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Bone Densitometry
- Vascular Sonography
SONOGRAPHY
If you earn a credential in Sonography—from ARRT or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)—you’ll meet the supporting category prerequisite for the following disciplines:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Vascular Sonography
- Breast Sonography
