POSTPRIMARY PATHWAY: MRI
WORKING IN MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures play an important role in diagnosing diseases and injuries. Although a radiologist reviews MRI results, as a technologist you’re responsible for obtaining the best images possible. Your patients might be in pain or distress, or they might feel claustrophobic. You’ll provide support while talking patients through the procedure and letting them know what to expect.
As an MRI technologist, you’ll work with radiologists to play an important role on the patient’s medical team. MRI is a rewarding field, and you’ll learn and grow as technology advances.
GET STARTED ON YOUR CREDENTIAL
To earn credentials in MRI using the postprimary pathway, you must maintain compliance with the ARRT Standards of Ethics and fulfill additional requirements in structured education, clinical experience, and examination. You must also meet a supporting discipline prerequisite. For MRI, you must first be certified and registered in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, or Sonography. Your Nuclear Medicine Technology credentials may be through ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Your Sonography credentials may be through ARRT or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
