WHAT IF I FAIL THE EXAM?

ARRT’s exams are designed to measure the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as an entry-level radiologic technologist. As such, they’re challenging. We need to be sure that you’re well-prepared to provide safe and effective patient care.

If you fail your exam, try not to worry—you’ll have two more opportunities to retake the exam within three years. And there are ways to better prepare yourself for the next exam.

Start by looking at the Score Report you’ll receive from ARRT. On it, you’ll find scores for each individual section of the exam. If you didn’t pass a particular section, review the corresponding section of the content specifications document for your discipline before your next exam attempt. Although we don’t endorse any particular set of study materials, the content specifications can show you the type of information you’ll need to know for each exam section.

To schedule another exam attempt, submit the reapplication for certification and registration, which we’ll include in your score packet.

Questions about reapplying? Call our Initial Certification Department at 651.687.0048, then choose the option for earning an ARRT credential.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ACCURACY OF YOUR SCORE?

ARRT uses several quality-control procedures to ensure that all exams are scored with complete accuracy. It’s extremely unlikely that our scoring calculations will be incorrect. For a fee and within a certain amount of time, however, you may request a review of your score’s accuracy if you think a calculation error has occurred. Check your handbook for instructions and more information.

PROBLEMS AT THE TEST CENTER?

We strive to ensure that our exams are administered fairly and in a comfortable and safe environment. If you believe that your exam administration deviated substantially from normal testing procedures, you may request a review of your exam administration.
