ARRT Recognizes Recipients of Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship

Five students have earned $4,000 scholarships to support their studies in entry-level radiologic science programs. The scholarship honors Royce Osborn, the first Black president of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT).

To be offered this from an association within my chosen profession, and of which I am a member, makes this award even more special and meaningful to me. As a young Latin woman, I am beyond grateful and humbly accept this gift.

Ryu Kawada, Bellevue College, Bellevue, Washington (Radiation Therapy)

With the money I will receive from this scholarship, I will be able to put the money I earn from my jobs toward all the costs associated with having a place to stay and food to eat, without jeopardizing my ability to go to school. I still feel like I am walking on clouds.

Megan Leasure, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska (Radiography)

I am beyond humbled and grateful to hear that I am a recipient of the Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship! By receiving this scholarship, I am able to cut back hours from work and devote more time to studying and focusing on lectures. Attending school full-time comes with the added financial burden of loans, and this generous scholarship will go towards helping to pay tuition and books and lessen some of this burden. With this scholarship, I can continue my education at Idaho State University and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Radiographic Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish for Health Professionals in May 2024. This has made an enormous positive impact on my family and me with this scholarship.

Funded through an ARRT endowment, ASRT awards the scholarships each year to outstanding minority students enrolled in entry-level educational programs (Radiography, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, MRI, or Sonography).
