ARRT DISCONTINUES POSTPRIMARY ELIGIBILITY PATHWAY FOR SONOGRAPHY
In January 2020, ARRT eliminated the postprimary eligibility pathway for earning an ARRT Sonography credential. We continue to offer the credential using our primary eligibility pathway.
The change doesn’t affect our other disciplines. And if you already hold an ARRT Sonography credential, it shouldn’t affect you, either:
- You can continue to renew your Sonography credential each year.
- You’ll experience no differences in the processes for completing your biennial continuing education requirements; keep in mind, however, that Sonography continuing education requires 16 credits directly related to the discipline (see ARRT Continuing Education Requirements for more information)
- You’ll see no difference in the processes for completing your CQR (only R.T.s who earned credentials after Jan. 1, 2011, are subject to CQR)
The only difference would occur if you needed to reinstate a lapsed Sonography credential by retaking the ARRT exam. In that case, if you didn’t pass the exam within three attempts, or within three years of the starting date of your first reinstatement exam window, you wouldn’t be able to requalify for the Sonography credential without completing a professional education program.
We made the change because few candidates for the credential have used our postprimary eligibility pathway recently. In addition, the number of professional education programs in Sonography has increased significantly.
