We Hear You: How Your Comments Help Improve Processes, Communications
From practice analyses to usability testing to surveys, ARRT asks Registered Technologists (R.T.s) for input. See all the ways you can make your voice heard.
Your experiences with ARRT are important to us. That’s why we regularly ask for feedback. R.T.s play a significant role regarding our exams, our communication materials, and our processes.
Practice Analysis Surveys
At least every five years, we conduct practice analyses in each discipline. The nationwide surveys ask about the professional activities a minimally qualified R.T. in your discipline needs to perform. If you want to affect the future of your profession, complete and return the practice analysis surveys you receive. We base our clinical requirements and exam content specifications on the results.
In addition, R.T.s affect our exams by:
- Writing questions for the exams
- Serving on exam committees to review new exam content
- Serving on practice analysis committees to create the surveys, analyze the results, and suggest changes to clinical requirements and exam content specifications

Communications Materials
Each year, we send a survey that enables R.T.s to comment on proposed clarifications and changes to our governing documents. This March, nearly 15,000 R.T.s responded. At its summer meeting, the Board of Trustees reviews the comments and responses.
Your feedback helps the Board decide whether to make the proposed changes permanent. For example, several years ago concerns about eliminating continuing education credits for publications caused us to modify that change. We communicate any changes to our policies and processes following the Board meeting.
Our Processes
We also conduct usability testing, focus groups, and surveys to learn where our processes work well and where they are problematic.
For example, we ask one in nine R.T.s to complete a survey upon logging out of their online ARRT account. We ask about satisfaction with the site and whether they successfully completed the tasks they set out to do. The answers tell us where we need to clarify wording or improve our processes and tools.
We make continuous improvements to our websites and tools based on feedback from people who contact us by phone or Message Center. In addition, we invite R.T.s to participate in online focus groups or one-on-one usability tests (where we observe people navigating our website and tools as they perform specific tasks). These activities help us uncover problems and opportunities for improvement.
When R.T.s complete their Continuing Qualifications Requirements (CQR), we invite them to complete a survey about their experiences. Since 2017, we’ve asked about things such as:
- Ease of understanding CQR deadlines, including the three-year compliance period (90% favorable)
- Time commitment needed (85% favorable)
- Clarity of our correspondence (84% favorable)
- Ease of completing CQR (72% favorable)
From 2017 through early 2023, more than 26,000 people have completed the survey.
Finally, if you select the online option for taking your Structured Self-Assessment, we ask about the experience. We’ve used the responses to refine the online process and clarify what you need to know before choosing that option.
