EXAM RESULTS
ARRT scores all of the state licensing exams that we administer. We then send the results to the states. State entities review the exam scores and determine whether you pass or fail—ARRT doesn’t make that determination. (Note that taking an exam for state licensing purposes is not the same as taking an exam for ARRT certification and registration. For the latter, ARRT determines whether candidates pass or fail.)
The state entity will notify you of your exam results. Some states mail notices; other states require you to check online. Either way, allow up to four weeks for the state to provide your score. After four weeks, contact your state entity. ARRT can’t release exam scores to candidates.
Retaking the Exam: Each state has its own rules about eligibility to retake the exam should you fail. Some allow multiple attempts within specific windows of time; others may have additional requirements to regain eligibility. Contact your state directly to learn more.
HOW YOUR STATE LICENSING EXAM AFFECTS YOUR ATTEMPTS WITH ARRT
If you attempt a state licensing exam that ARRT administers, you can’t use those results to earn ARRT certification and registration. Those attempts will count, however, in the three-attempt, three-year limit rule for ARRT certification and registration.
