BE AWARE OF THESE CHANGES REGARDING STRUCTURED EDUCATION
September 2016
If you’re seeking a postprimary credential, you need to complete structured education that relates to your new discipline. (Structured education is ARRT’s name for the continuing education activities or academic courses you must complete to fulfill the education requirements for a postprimary discipline.)
That change—announced six years ago—went into effect Jan. 1, 2016.
Originally, however, the change would have required you to earn 16 credits—with at least one credit in each of an exam’s major categories. That latter requirement has been relaxed until Jan. 1, 2018, giving educational providers and ARRT extra time to prepare for the new system.
In short:
- If you apply for a postprimary credential before Jan. 1, 2018, you must submit 16 structured education credits that relate to your new discipline
- If you apply for a postprimary credential on or after Jan. 1, 2018, you must submit 16 structured education credits—each of which covers an area of ARRT’s content outline for that discipline—and you’ll have to earn at least one credit in each of the content outline’s major areas (for example, Patient Care, Safety, Image Production, and Procedures)
