Samantha Sawyer, a Clinical Coordinator and Instructor with the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana, received a scholarship for professionals from ARRT and administered through the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). The grant—worth up to $500—will help her complete her doctorate in education at the University of Southern Indiana.
“I’m honored to receive this grant,” Sawyer says. “My thanks to ARRT and AIUM for their collaboration and support of professional development opportunities. This grant will indirectly benefit the students I teach and the patients I serve.” In addition to teaching, Sawyer is a supplemental employee at Deaconess Women’s Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana, and Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Anne Kelley, a Sonography student at South College in Asheville, North Carolina, received the ARRT student scholarship. Also administered through AIUM, it too is worth up to $500. Kelley hopes to become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and ultimately work in pediatric echocardiography. “I appreciate receiving this scholarship,” she says. “It has allowed me to pay for my abdomen and OB/GYN certification exams, both of which I’ve now passed!”
ARRT collaborates with AIUM, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), the Society for MR Radiographers & Technologists (SMRT) and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section (SNMMI-TS) to run scholarship programs. Applicants don’t need to hold an ARRT credential to apply for or receive a grant. Our goal is to help students and R.T.s further their education in medical imaging, interventional procedures, and radiation therapy. We also offer grants that help students attend the annual meeting of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS).
In the past two years alone, ARRT has provided more than $70,000 to scholarship recipients. To learn more about the grants, visit the respective organizations’ websites.
