At its January Board of Trustees meeting, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) extended recognition for the radiologist assistant program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, for another five years.
Students who graduate while ARRT recognizes Rutgers’ program will meet ARRT’s educational eligibility requirement for certification and registration as Registered Radiologist Assistants. As advanced-level radiographers, R.R.A.s extend a radiologist’s capacity by performing various health care procedures. R.R.A.s work in hospitals and private practices.
To get or maintain ARRT recognition, educational programs must meet criteria including accreditation, clinical education, and preceptorship requirements. ARRT evaluates programs based on our Recognition Criteria for Radiologist Assistant Education Programs, which we revised July 31, 2018. Five years is the maximum time ARRT recognizes radiologist assistant programs.
ARRT recognizes the radiologist assistant educational programs at:
- Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California
- Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, Texas
- Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Connecticut
- Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Newark, New Jersey
- University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, Arkansas
- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

“We congratulate the Rutgers faculty and wish the program ongoing success,” says J.J. Powell, Director of Education Requirements.
