As part of our continuing efforts to prepare Registered Technologists to meet changing professional standards, ARRT created the Continuing Qualifications Requirements (CQR) process.
Like other organizations, ARRT continually monitors our practices and enhances our requirements as appropriate. After studying CQR results from 2018 to 2020, we’ve updated the algorithm that determines continuing education (CE) prescriptions. We expect that the refined algorithm will result in a smaller prescription for many people.
What’s Changed?
CQR consists of three stages: the Professional Profile, the Structured Self-Assessment (SSA), and prescribed CE activities, if needed. When an SSA score reveals areas for learning opportunities, an algorithm translates the numerical score into a CE prescription for each of a discipline’s content categories.
Although the scores on each SSA will remain the same, we’ve determined that CQR will better meet its stated purpose if we increase the sensitivity of CE assignments. In other words, the SSA scores will result in a wider range of prescriptions. A few people will receive no CE prescription, most will receive a fractional prescription, and some will receive a full prescription.
Who’s Affected?
A small portion of people who completed the SSA between Jan. 1, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2020, will receive a “retranslated" CE prescription based on the refined algorithm. People whose prescription has changed will receive an email and a U.S. Postal Service letter alerting them to the change.
Because we’ve already applied the refined algorithm for people who completed the SSA on or after Jan. 1, 2021, nothing will change for them.
