Since examinations are required to be practice related, ARRT periodically conducts a job analysis to make certain that the examination content specifications remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. ARRT, with the help of the professional community, reviews the examination documents approximately every five years.
The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following documents that will go into effect on July 1, 2023.
Overview of Major Changes to the Content Specifications
- In the Patient Care section, content about Patient Assessment and Preparation was expanded. The infection control area was removed since it is covered on the radiography exam.
- In the Image Production section, specific procedural equipment, quality control, and mandatory radiation reporting were added.
- In the Procedures section, lymphangiography was added under Vascular Diagnostic Procedures.
- In the Procedures section, percutaneous thrombin injection, port (removal) and PICC line placement were added under Vascular Interventional Procedures. Hybrid OR was added under Focus of Questions.
- In the Procedures section under Nonvascular Procedures, the following were added: antegrade urography; suprapubic catheter placement; percutaneous enteric tube evaluation; epidural steroid injection; lumbar puncture; myelogram; and abscess, fistula, or sinus tract study. Percutaneous stone extraction and discography were removed. Ultrasound guidance was added under Focus of Questions.
