ARRT’s Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the clinical experience requirements for our Vascular Sonography credential. If you’re working on the credential, be sure to review the linked document.

The changes go into effect on January 1, 2024, and apply to all postprimary candidates for the credential.

Here are the most significant changes.

• The procedures were reorganized into mandatory and optional procedures. For some of the procedures, an appendix that lists the required and optional vessels to be demonstrated with that procedure was added.
• Eight mandatory procedures must be demonstrated with a total of 195 repetitions. The chart lists the number of repetitions required for each procedure.
• A total of 100 elective repetitions must be demonstrated. The maximum number of repetitions for each procedure is listed on the chart.
• Up to 25% of some of the mandatory and elective procedures may be performed on a volunteer. The chart lists what procedures are eligible for simulation.
• The following procedures were removed from the procedures list: toe-brachial index (TBI), post-exercise testing, vein ablations, and post endarterectomy.
• A maximum of 8 procedures each day may be logged on one day.
• A limit of 2 procedures may be documented on one patient or volunteer each day.

The analyses help ensure that the content specifications and clinical requirements for our exams remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair.
