ARRT Board of Trustees Names New Members, 2024-25 Officers

(May 3, 2024) — The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Board of Trustees appointed Jason Barrett, B.S., R.R.A., R.T.(R)(ARRT) and Denise Fandel, MBA, to four-year terms starting in August 2024. Barrett fills the position vacated by retiring Trustee, Travis Prowant, M.S.H.S., R.R.A., R.T.(R)(CV)(CT)(ARRT), FASRT. Fandel will be the public member of the ARRT Board.

Cheryl DuBose, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(C.T.)(MR)(QM)(ARRT), MRSO, FASRT, was elected Board President for the coming year. David Madoff, M.D., FSIR, FACR, FCIRSE, will serve as Vice President and Candice Johnstone, M.D., M.P.H., FAAWR, FACR, will be Secretary-Treasurer.

About Barrett

With over 20 years of experience as a technologist and Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.), Barrett is a fierce advocate for the radiologic technology profession. Currently, Barrett is Director of Imaging and Cardiac Services and an R.R.A. at Logan Health in Kalispell, Montana. Previously, he worked as an R.R.A. at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts, and as an interventional and cardiac catheterization technologist at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. For 12 years, Barrett served as President and Chair of the Society of Radiology Physician Extenders, advocating for the recognition and advancement of radiologist assistants through both state and national activities.

“I am thrilled to be joining ARRT’s Board of Trustees,” says Barrett. “As a leader in radiologic technologist credentialing, ARRT’s commitment to actively advocating for the radiologic technologist profession and our patients through legislative activities is truly inspiring. I’m excited to lend my expertise and contribute to ARRT’s advocacy efforts.

About Fandel

As the public member of ARRT’s Board, Fandel brings over 35 years of experience working with and advising boards of directors and educators in the certification and accreditation industry. Her expertise includes helping boards recruit public members and ensure they make effective contributions. She is a recognized leader in the certification industry, having served as Chair of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.) Board of Directors and the National Commission for Certifying agencies, the accreditation arm of I.C.E. Fandel was the first full-time employee of the Board of Certification (BOC), a national organization with the only accredited certification program for athletic trainers in the U.S. Under her 22 years of leadership, the BOC staff grew to 20 and the number of certificants grew to over 55,000 and gained the respect of the entire athletic training industry.

Fandel is honored to be the public member of the ARRT Board. “Throughout my career, I have witnessed time and time again how the rich experiences and passions of board members can influence the work of their organizations to change people’s lives for the better,” she says. “I’m excited to be part of ARRT as it grows and evolves to meet the changing needs of the radiologic technology profession.”

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists promotes high standards of patient care by recognizing qualified individuals in medical imaging, interventional procedures, and radiation therapy. Headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, ARRT evaluates, certifies, and annually registers more than 350,000 radiologic technologists across the United States. 

An 11-member Board of Trustees provides the vision and direction for ARRT. The Board sets ARRT’s policies, including establishing requirements for obtaining and maintaining credentials. Professional membership societies and other organizations nominate people to serve as our Trustees. Board membership is comprised of six ARRT registered technologists, four licensed physicians, and one public member who represents the public interest and consumers of services provided by ARRT-certified and registered technologists.
