Updated MRI Clinical Experience Requirements Document

ARRT requires certification examinations to be practice-related, so it periodically conducts a job analysis to ensure the certification examination content specifications and clinical requirements remain comprehensive, accurate, and fair. With the help of the professional community, ARRT reviews the certification documents every five years. The ARRT Board of Trustees recently approved changes to the following document, which will go into effect on February 1, 2025.

OVERVIEW OF THE MAJOR CHANGES TO THE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates cannot use remote scanning for any clinical experience requirement. They must be physically present during the examination or procedure.
  • Total spine has been added as a procedure.
  • Soft tissue (e.g., tumor, infection) has been added as a procedure.
  • The minimum number of different procedures remains the same at 21, with a total of 125 repetitions across all procedures. A maximum of 7 procedures can be documented each day.
